One Woman Dies, 6 Injured in Friday Limousine Crash Near Elgin

The Illinois State Police Department is investigating a Friday-morning limousine crash that took the life of a 53-year-old Wisconsin woman and injured six others on the Illinois tollway near Elgin, according to a Kane County Coroner’s Office news release and media reports.

Coroner’s Office staff members were notified at around 8:28 a.m. Friday, March 25, 2016, following the crash that took place shortly after 7 a.m. on I-90, about 75 feet east of mile post 55.8.

The deceased has been identified as Terri Schmidt, of Wisconsin, who was pronounced dead on scene at 7:53 a.m.

An autopsy was performed on March 28, 2016, at the Kane County morgue, with the preliminary cause of death described as “multiple injuries due to a limousine mishap.”

Toxicology samples were collected and sent to a forensic lab.

According to media reports in the Chicago Tribune, ABC News and the Daily Herald, the rollover crash tied up traffic near the Elgin-Dundee area at the Illinois 25 exit throughout Friday morning. Police said the driver of the limousine was blinded by the sun shortly after 7 a.m. near Route 25.
