An Aurora man was killed and a Maple Park man was seriously injured in a head-on crash this morning (March 29, 2016) near the entrance of Mooseheart Child City, closing Route 31 for several hours.

According to a report from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at around 10:15 a.m. to the area of Route 31 north of Mooseheart Road in unincorporated Batavia Township for a report of a traffic crash with injuries.

The initial investigation revealed that a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Jose Quitl, 21, of Aurora was traveling north Route 31 and for an unknown reason crossed into the southbound lane of traffic, where it collided head on with a 2010 Ford pickup truck driven by Brandon Haller, 24, of Maple Park.

Quitl was pronounced deceased at the scene. Haller was transported to Delnor Hospital and is being treated for apparent non-life-threatening injuries.

Kane County Sheriff’s detectives and investigators from the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team are continuing to investigate the crash.  Detectives have not determined if drugs, alcohol, texting or excessive speed played a role in this crash. No tickets have been issued.

Route 31 was closed from the time of the crash until approximately 1:15 p.m.

Mooseheart is a residential childcare facility, located on a 1,000-acre campus 38 miles west of Chicago. The Child City is a home for children and teens in need, from infancy through high school.
