The initial investigation indicates that a Chrysler Town and Country van driven by Peter Mickle, 91, of Aurora was traveling west on Hankes Road and for an unknown reason crossed the center line and struck an eastbound Mazda CX9 driven by Tracey Miller, 49 of Sugar Grove.

The drivers of each vehicle were the sole occupants. Both drivers were transported to Mercy Center Hospital in Aurora.

The Sheriff’s Office later was informed that Mickle died at the hospital.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by Kane County Sheriff’s Office detectives and members of the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team. No tickets have been issued. Hankes Road was closed until approximately 4 p.m. while the crash was investigated.

This is the second death on an unincorporated Kane County road in three days. A 64-year-old Elgin man died Thursday morning (April 7, 2016) after a crash in unincorporated Hampshire Township.

The Kane County Coroner’s Office performed an autopsy on April 11, 2016, at the Kane County morgue, with the preliminary cause of death being “multiple injuries.” Toxicology samples were collected and sent to a forensic lab.
