Aurora Police Seek Public’s Help Solving Possible Shooting Homicide
Aurora police are investigating the shooting death of a 26-year-old man that occurred early Saturday morning.
At approximately 6:20 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 2016, police responded to the 400 block of Beach Street for a report of a person down on the sidewalk. Upon arrival, officers found Luis Martinez of the 700 block of Gerten Avenue in unincorporated Aurora, unconscious, not breathing, and suffering from at least two gunshot wounds. Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:31 a.m.
At this time, police have no suspect information and do not know if the shots that struck Martinez were fired by someone in a vehicle or on foot. During a neighborhood canvass, several residents reported hearing multiple gunshots several minutes before police were called. Two other homes in the 400 block of Beach were struck by gunfire but no one else was hit.
At around 5:50 a.m., police responded to the 500 block of Seventh Avenue for a call of shots fired and upon arrival, found a home that had been struck multiple times. A vehicle parked in the driveway was also hit. There were no injuries in the shooting. An older model, white, Lincoln Town Car with a red or black cloth-top roof was seen leaving the area at a high rate of speed shortly after the shots were heard. There is no suspect information in the shooting and police do not yet know if it is related to the homicide. The two incidents were approximately two miles apart.
Definite motives have yet to be established in either shooting.

An autopsy on Martinez is scheduled for Monday, April 11 at the Kane County Coroner’s Office in Geneva.
