The Aurora Police Department has concluded that Monday’s report of an attempted child abduction involving a 10-year-old girl is not true.

The girl admitted to police she made the entire story up.

She originally told police that she was grabbed around 8:10 a.m. April 4, by an adult woman as she waited for a ride to school in the 1200 block of Marshall Boulevard on the city’s Near North East Side.

“The Aurora police thank the community for their increased awareness and vigilance in response to the report,” the department said in a Thursday news release.

No further information will be released by police.

Aurora police are investigating the report of an attempted child abduction that occurred around 8:10 a.m. today (Monday, April 4, 2016) in the 1200 block of Marshall Boulevard on the city’s Near North East side.

A 10-year-old girl told police she was outside of an apartment building waiting for a ride to school when she was approached by a woman who grabbed and threatened her. Once the girl started screaming, the suspect, who the child said was white, in her 30’s, between 5 feet 5 inches and 5 feet 8 inches and weighed between 110 and 130 pounds, took off running east toward Farnsworth Avenue. The girl was not physically injured.

The suspect was clad in a black jacket with the hood up and had a multi-colored scarf over her face. She also had moles on her forehead and face and a scar under her right eye. A thorough check of the area by responding Aurora Police Officers was negative.

Anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area today or who may have information is asked to call Aurora Police Investigations at 630-256-5500, Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at 630-892-1000, or submit their tips through the department’s “My PD” app. Callers to Crime Stoppers are anonymous and qualify for a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to any arrests. Aurora Police officers will be increasing patrols in the area for the immediate future.
