Charges Filed in Connection With Stabbing During 100-Person January Brawl in Aurora

Aurora police have secured felony charges through the Kane County State’s Attorney on a 22-year-old man in connection with the Jan. 23 stabbing of a Batavia man outside of an Aurora bar.

Davonte Bouchee of the 600 block of Talma Street faces two counts of aggravated battery in the stabbing of the 22 year old Batavia man that occurred around 1:40 a.m., Jan. 23, at La Quinta De Los Reyes, a bar located in the first block of East New York Street. Moments before the stabbing, a 36-year-old Aurora man was shot to death in a parking lot behind the establishment.

When officers responded to the scene, they discovered at least 100 people in the parking lot and surrounding areas shouting and fighting. At the same time, they found Marcus Holland, 36, of the 1000 block of Foran Lane, Aurora, lying in the lot suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Just after the shooting, police were alerted to the stabbing victim who was sitting inside the bar.

According to the ongoing investigation, the shooting and stabbing followed a large party inside the bar. As the partygoers were exiting, two groups of people began arguing and fighting once they got outside and shots rang out. Holland was shot more than one time by a still unknown subject who fled the scene immediately after the shooting.

The stabbing was captured on video by someone who began recording the disturbance after hearing the shots fired. After reviewing that video, along with numerous other clips captured by several different sources, Aurora Police identified Bouchee as the suspect and established probable cause to arrest him. Charging documents indicate he allegedly confronted the stabbing victim as he was trying to go back into the restaurant, asked him a gang-related question, and stabbed him in the back with an unknown object. The man was treated at an Aurora hospital for a non-life threatening injury and released.

Bouchee was taken into custody around 11 p.m. April 3 after Special Operations Group investigators stopped a car in which he was riding in the area of Douglas Road and Route 30 in unincorporated Kendall County. When they tried to take him into custody, Bouchee ran but was tackled after a short foot chase. Two of the Special Operations investigators were treated for minor injuries resulting from the arrest. Bouchee is currently being held in the Kane County Adult Justice Center in St. Charles in lieu of $50,000 bond.

Police believe the shooting and stabbing to be connected and the apparent motivation is street gang-related.
