Aurora police have secured felony charges through the Kane County State’s Attorney on a 24-year-old woman who allegedly inflicted possibly life-threatening injuries on a 6-week-old infant.

calls for enhanced sentencing if she is convicted. Phillips and the infant are related but because of the child’s age and the fact the baby is a crime victim, police cannot further elaborate on their relationship.

Charging documents indicate that a relative of both Phillips and the baby who lives in Oswego and was caring for the child, called for an ambulance on April 13 when the baby showed signs of seizures. Once the infant was examined, doctors found numerous injuries consistent with child abuse. The baby was then transferred to a Chicago hospital where the child continues to be treated for trauma to its head, brain, and body.

Phillips was taken into custody without incident at her home Wednesday night, April 20. Her bond was set at $250,000 earlier today and she has been transferred to the Kane County Correctional Center in St. Charles with a pending court date.

The investigation is continuing and further charges against Phillips have not been ruled out.

The charges against Phillips are not proof of guilt. Phillips is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
