Countdown to Earth Day: Don’t Just Hug a Tree, Plant One (or More!) April 23 With the Forest Preserve

This year, why not make Earth Day a little more meaningful for your family by planting a tree?
The Forest Preserve District of Kane County is offering the perfect opportunity to do exactly that — a tree-planting event at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 23, that will help expand an oak savanna at Fitchie Creek Forest Preserve in Elgin.
All are welcome to join the fun — be sure to arrive promptly at 10 a.m! Planting will continue until all trees are in the ground or 1 p.m., whichever comes first!
You and your fellow volunteers will plant hundreds of oaks in only a few hours, and the Forest Preserve District can use as many helpers as it can get. Holes will be pre-dug. Volunteers will simply plant the tree, tamp down dirt, add water and mulch. It’s easy!
You’re welcome to plant a single tree or stay and plant as many as you like. Bring work gloves if you prefer.
This volunteer opportunity is perfect for individuals or groups, families, scouts, youth groups or other organizations. Groups of 10 or more, please contact our volunteer coordinator at 630-762-2741 or cleaverobb@kaneforest.com to register. Groups of less than 10 do not need to RSVP.
