IDOT: Lane-Width Reduced at IL Route 31 and Silver Glen in South Elgin

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced today that a lane width reduction will take place on Illinois 31 at Silver Glen Road, in South Elgin, for intersection reconstruction, beginning, weather permitting, Wednesday, April 13.
In order to complete the work, the existing lanes on Illinois 31 will be reduced to a narrower configuration.
The scope of the project includes widening and resurfacing, storm sewer construction and new traffic signal installation at the intersection.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.

Other IDOT Illinois Route 31 Work
The Illinois Route 31 Interchange Project includes reconstruction of the bridges carrying I-90 over Illinois Route 31 and eight interchange ramps to accommodate the I-90 Rebuilding and Widening Project and to improve traffic flow. The Illinois Route 31 Bridge and ramps were constructed as part of the original Tollway system in the 1950s.
The $19 million Illinois Route 31 Interchange Project is funded by the Illinois Tollway’s 15-year, $12 billion capital program, Move Illinois: The Illinois Tollway Driving the Future.

This project is being coordinated with Kane County, the city of Elgin and the Illinois Department of Transportation, along with local police and fire departments.
