North Aurora Man Headed to Prison for Burglarizing Home
A North Aurora man with a lengthy criminal past is headed to prison for a 2014 residential burglary.
Roosevelt T. Yankaway, 23, of the 100 block of East State Street, North Aurora, was sentenced Wednesday, April 20, 2016, by Associate Judge Linda Abrahamson to 10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Yankaway was convicted Feb. 9, 2016, by a Kane County jury, of residential burglary, a Class 1 felony.Kane County prosecutors presented evidence that at about 1:30 p.m. Dec. 29, 2014, Yankaway broke into a residence in the 1000 block of Kane Street, Aurora, and stole $300 cash.
A resident who was upstairs heard a loud noise and went to investigate. As she looked down the stairs she saw Yankaway walking up the stairs. Yankaway immediately fled. Yankaway was identified by a neighbor.
Yankaway was eligible for enhanced sentencing because of his criminal history. He has multiple felony convictions in Kane County for residential burglary, burglary and criminal damage to property.
According to Illinois law, Yankaway is eligible for day-for-day sentencing. He was given credit for 436 days served in the Kane County jail.The case was prosecuted by Kane County Assistant State’s Attorneys Vincent Coyle and Alexander Bederka.
