St.Charles’ 11th Annual Sculpture in the Park Exhibit Begins April 25

As spring emerges in the Fox Valley, the landscape of Mt. St. Mary Park in St. Charles will present — for the 11th consecutive year — a striking and engaging sculpture exhibition against the backdrop of nature’s seasonal beauty.  The Sculpture in the Park event will begin the week of April 25 with installation of 14 unique works of art.

This year’s exhibit includes works of art from 12 sculptors all over the nation. On display will be The Shaman and Midnight Serenade by Pokey Park of Tucson, AZ; Meeting by David Orth of Marengo, IL; A Love Story of Two Trees by Luke Russell of Screen Shot 2016-04-22 at 3.38.59 PMGays Mills, WI; The Dragon-Flies by Douglas Eageny of St. Charles, IL; Winged Figure 2016 by Fred Klingelhofer of Des Plaines, IL; Pulse I (Vibrations of the Earth) by James Lax of St. Charles, IL; Beach Ball With Spike by Howard Russo of St. Charles, IL; Foxgloves & Fists and Fistacuffs by Nicole Beck of Chicago, IL; Tendril Pod by Mary K. “We’re honored to have the opportunity to share the original works of these very talented artists, and a highlight of the event is seeing how much the public enjoys it,” said Holly Cabel, director of parks & recreation. “As guests have commented in the past, the sculptures are each so vastly different, visitors will be able to experience a range of style and expression, all in a beautiful, natural setting.”

St. Mary Park features 10 permanent installations, bringing the total number of sculptures to 24 available for viewing through September. The 5/8-mile walking path offers perfect views for photographing these unique works of art.  And, feel free to spread out your picnic blanket below your favorite piece for a relaxing day in the park. Last year’s six-month exhibit drew more than 8,000 visitors to the park.

Sculpture in the Park is made possible by the combined efforts of the St. Charles Park Foundation and the St. Charles Park District. This event is also made successful by the support of several sponsors including Banner Up Signs in Sycamore and several St. Charles businesses and organizations including the St Charles’ Visitors Cultural Commission, Blooming Color, St. Charles Township, River Corridor Foundation and the Kane County Chronicle.

The public is welcome and encouraged to visit Mt. St. Mary Park during the installation to enjoy the long-anticipated “first look” at this year’s exquisite sculptures, all of which are for sale.

Mt. St. Mary Park is located on Prairie Street, east of IL Route 31 in St Charles.
