U.S. News: 8 Kane County High Schools Ranked Among Best in Illinois

St. Charles North cracked the Top 25 in U.S. News Best High Schools rankings for the state of Illinois this year, and eight Kane County schools made the top 100.

In a year that saw big changes in the way schools are tested, there were more than a few changes in the rankings from 2015, but the news mostly was good for Kane County schools.

The eight Kane County high schools that made the list are St. Charles North, Barrington, St.Charles East, Hinckley-Big Rock, Geneva Community, Bartlett, Central and Batavia. But two more top 100 high schools might also be categorized as in Kane County: Metea Valley High School and Waubonsie Valley High School, both located in Aurora and part of Indian Prairies School District 204.

best high schools U.S. NewsThe U.S. News Best High Schools rankings, released today (Tuesday April 19, 2016), give national recognition to 6,218 top-performing public high schools in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. These schools were awarded gold, silver and bronze medals based on their students’ graduation rates, performance on state tests and college readiness.

To graduate, Illinois high school students must take three years of math and one year of art, music, foreign language or vocational education, among other requirements. High school students in Illinois may be assessed in English language arts and math through the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, or PARCC, assessments. Learn more from the Illinois State Board of Education.

Illinois has many schools ranked in 2016 among the U.S. News Best High Schools, including 15 gold medal schools, 82 silver medal schools and 74 bronze medal schools.
