IDOT Will Close IL Route 31 Near Silver Glen Road May 13-17
Friday the 13th will bring a bit of bad luck from drivers who regularly use IL Route 31 in South Elgin.
The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today (May 10, 2016) that a road closure will take place on Route 31 north of Silver Glen Road, near South Elgin, beginning Friday, May 13, weather permitting. The closure is necessary to make drainage improvements, part of an intersection improvement project at Route 31 and Silver Glen Road.
In order to complete the work, Route 31 will be closed just north of Silver Glen Road from Friday, May 13 to Tuesday, May 17.
A posted detour will direct northbound traffic on Route 31 to go east on IL Route 64, north on IL Route 25, west on Stearns Road and south on McLean Boulevard to meet back with Route 31. Southbound traffic on Route 31 should take the reverse route. Motorists driving east on Silver Glen Road will only be able to go south on Route 31.
Truck traffic is not to use Red Gate Road bridge as an alternative.
The scope of the project includes widening and resurfacing, storm sewer construction and new traffic signal installation at the intersection.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
