May 19 ‘Community That Cares’ Breakfast Will Honor Aurora Mayor, Difference-Makers

A special tribute to outgoing Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner will be a part of the Fox Valley United Way’s 2016 “Celebrating a Community That Cares” breakfast.

FVUW is hosting the annual recognition breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, May 19, at Piper’s Banquets in Aurora. “Celebrating a Community That Cares” gathers FVUW donors, volunteers and advocates together with the social service agencies and clients that have benefitted from their time, attention and generosity in the past year.

Each year, the breakfast draws a full crowd, many of whom are celebrated for helping to create lasting change in the community. A highlight of the event is the testimonials presented by individuals from the community who “got a second chance” because of donors, volunteers and social service agencies who chose to lend a helping hand.

Several awards will be presented, including:

  • Community Action Contributor awards that honor corporate and employee contributions
  • Volunteer of the Year award that celebrates someone who has gone above and beyond to serve the community
  • “Live United” award that recognizes those who embody what it means to Live United — reaching out a hand to one to influence the condition of all.

The special tribute will honor Weisner for his years of support and encouragement of the Fox Valley United Way.

Once again music will be provided by the talented Exelon/ComEd United Way Band, and a delicious breakfast buffet will be provided by Pipers Banquets.
