Scott Roscoe Named Grand Marshal of Aurora’s 2016 Memorial Day Parade

Vietnam veteran, local labor leader and lifelong Auroran Scott Roscoe, has been named the 2016 Grand Marshal of Aurora’s Memorial Day Parade. He will lead the annual parade at noon Monday, May 30, in downtown Aurora.

Mayor Tom Weisner and the Aurora City Council will recognize Roscoe during the Aurora City Council Meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, at Aurora City Hall, 44 E. Downer Place.

“Scottie Roscoe is one of those incredible Aurorans who pours his heart into our community,” said Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner. “From that young man who packed up his bags and joined the service right out of high school to the fair-minded labor leader who is one of the most respected in the field to the husband and father who gives countless hours of service to helping others, he is cut from a special cloth. As he leads our Memorial Day Parade, we will be reminded of those who give back selflessly and expect nothing in return. It is an honor for Aurora to have Scott Roscoe serve as Grand Marshal of this year’s parade.”

Born and raised in Aurora, Scott Roscoe is a stalwart leader who has faithfully served the country in the United States Marine Corps and the Aurora community for the last forty years.  Growing up on Aurora’s East Side, Roscoe attended Johnson Elementary School and Simmons Middle School before moving to the west side and graduating from West Aurora High School in 1974.

A U.S. Marine Corps Veteran

Roscoe enlisted in the USMC in 1974 and protected the liberties of this nation until his Honorable Discharge as sergeant in 1976. His commitment to the United States military continued when he returned home to Aurora and is still just as strong four decades later.  Roscoe is a member of the Fox Valley Marine Corps League Detachment #1233, Amvets Post #103 and the Roosevelt American Legion Post #84.

He served on the committee to bring the Vietnam Moving Wall and Field of Honor to Aurora in 2013 and has been a guardian on many Honor Flights that take World War II veterans to Washington, D.C.  In 2015, Roscoe was appointed to the Aurora Veterans Advisory Council.

Pipefitters Local Leader

A graduate of both the Apprenticeship Training Program of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 319 and the United Association’s Instructor Training Program, Roscoe is  38-year member of the United Association of Plumbers, Pipefitters, Sprinkler fitters, Steamfitters and Service Techs.  Presently, Roscoe serves as a business representative of Pipefitters Local 597.  In addition, he is the president of the Fox Valley Building Trades Council and trustee and past president of the North Central Illinois Labor Council.

A Community Advocate

Roscoe has been a consistent voice on veterans and labor initiatives with a goal of bringing people together for the good of the community. In addition to being a member of the city’s Labor Advisory Committee, he serves on state Rep. Linda Chapa LaVia’s Business and Labor Advisory Committee. He is president of the Board of Directors of the Aurora Police Foundation and a member of the Board of Directors of the Aurora Regional Chamber Commerce.  A resident of Aurora’s First Ward, he is also a member of Northeast Neighbors and an usher at Annunciation Church.
