State Fire Marshal Will Give Keynote May 7 at Elgin Area Firefighters Memorial Service
The annual Elgin Area Firefighters’ Memorial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2016, at the George Van De Voorde Firefighter Memorial Park at 533 St. Charles St., Elgin, IL.
Illinois State Fire Marshall Matt Perez will be the keynote speaker for this years’ service. Fire Marshall Perez had a long and distinguished career with the Aurora Fire Department before being appointed by the governor to run the Office of the State Fire Marshall.
The memorial is held each year to remember those who have served area communities and passed away in the previous year as well as to honor Illinois Firefighters who have lost their lives in the line over the previous year.
Bartlett, Carpentersville, East Dundee, Elgin, Hampshire, Hanover Part, Hoffman Estates, Pingree Grove, Rutland, South Elgin, Streamwood and West Dundee fire departments will participate in this solemn event.
Refreshments will be served and the Fire Museum will be open to the public. All are welcome to attend and the event will be held rain or shine.
