To borrow a quote from longtime White Sox announcer Ken “Hawk” Harrelson, “He gone!”

Kane County demolished a shed on the Government Center campus Tuesday (May 3, 2016), not a super important event in the cosmic scheme of things, but an interesting visual that ultimately will make the campus a little safer and a little more aesthetically pleasing.

The shed, located east of Building A (the main building) and south of Building B (the Kane County Clerk’s Office and IT Department), housed some snow plows, filters and tools such as snow shovels, which simply will be moved to another storage area.

Don Biggs, Kane County executive director of building management, said the shed was demolished after a study by Cordogan Clark & Associates revealed it would be too costly to repair the collapsing foundation and deteriorating floor joists.

The city of Geneva granted the demolition permit, and the cost of demolition was about $18,000, Biggs said.

The next time you come for a visit to the Government Center, you probably won’t notice the difference. Weather permitting, the shed will be leveled by Wednesday, May 4, 2016. After that will be some cleanup, some ground leveling, and the area will be seeded with grass, Biggs said.
