Grammy-Nominated Sones de México Ensemble Plays Free Concert June 21 at East High in Aurora

Sones de México Ensemble, a Grammy-nominated folk music group, will play a free concert at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, in the Hawks Auditorium at East Aurora High School, 500 Tomcat Lane. The community is invited to see the live performance of “Beyond the Music: A Musical Geography of Mexico” which will give a musical tour of 10 regions in Mexico. Sones de México Ensemble is a Chicago folk music ensemble that specializes in Mexican ‘son’ music, including the styles of chilenas, gustos, huapango, and son jarcoho. The group was formed in 1994 and is based in Chicago.

Sones de México Ensemble has created many original arrangements of traditional Mexican tunes. They have toured internationally and released six albums, including the Grammy-nominated Esta Tierra Es Tuya (This Land is Your Land).
