Help An Adult Learn English; July Training Workshops in St. Charles
Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley is seeking volunteers to help adults learn English. A four-session tutor training workshop will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 12, 14, 19, and 21 at the St. Charles Public Library.
Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley helps adults read, write, speak, and understand English by matching them with trained volunteer tutors one to one. The program provides material and training so that anyone can be a tutor. Tutors meet with their adult students for one hour each week.
The adult learners who are registered for the program have come from more than 30 different countries for the opportunity to provide for their families, live in safe neighborhoods, and send their children to good schools. It is estimated that there are 42,000 adults in Kane County who need to improve their English. Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley tutors help about 300 adults annually.
Residents who are interested in registering for tutor training should visit www.lvfv.org or call/text Peg Coker at 630-584-4428.
