State Budget Stalemate Stalls IDOT Road Construction Projects in St. Charles
The Illinois Department of Transportation has issued a notice that it is shutting down construction projects as well as local agency projects involving state funding/reimbursement as of June 30, the city of St. Charles said in a Friday, June 24, news release.
“There is no timeline as to when this suspension will be lifted,” the release said. “According to IDOT, without a budget, they are not able to incur additional spending.”
This state road construction project shutdown affects two projects in St. Charles:
- Red Gate Road Resurfacing – This project was scheduled to start next week, but now is on hold.
- IL Route 31 and Ferson Creek – IDOT launched this project earlier this year. As of last week, the roadway is open to one lane in each direction and will remain this way for the remainder of the project. Work will be shut down by June 30.
“We are keeping close contact with representatives from IDOT to monitor any new developments regarding this situation,” said St. Charles Director of Public Works Peter Suhr. “We will provide updates anytime new information becomes available.”
