Storm Sewer Installation Brings Detours to Downtown Aurora
The city of Aurora will begin a storm sewer installation and roadway rehabilitation project later this week that will have an affect on anyone driving in the downtown area.
A part of Aurora’s federally mandated Long Term Control Plan, this project will alleviate basement sewer backups, street flooding and sewer overflows into the Fox River.
Construction work will take place along Galena Boulevard between Stolp and LaSalle, LaSalle Street between Galena and Downer and Downer Place between LaSalle and State Street.
- Eastbound traffic on Galena Boulevard will be reduced to one lane from Stolp Avenue to Lincoln Avenue through August.
- Westbound traffic on Galena Boulevard from Lincoln Avenue to Broadway Avenue will be detoured to New York Street through August.
- Broadway Avenue will be reduced to one lane of traffic in both directions from Benton Avenue to New York Street and parking will not be permitted on this section of Broadway through August.
- As work progresses, sections of LaSalle and Downer will be intermittently closed with posted detours. This phase will continue into the following year.
Project updates will be available at www.aurora-il.org/construction.
