UPDATE: Batavia, Burlington Townships Assessments Publish June 9; Filing Deadline Extended Due to Publication Error

An oops moment in the publication of property assessment changes means folks in Batavia Township and Burlington Township will have a little more time to challenge the assessed value of their home or business.

The Kane County Supervisor of Assessments Office reports today that, due to a publishing error, the 2016 assessment changes for property in Batavia and Burlington townships were omitted from some copies of the Wednesday, June 8, 2016, Fox Valley edition of the Daily Herald.

“The entire list of assessment changes for both townships is being re-published today (Thursday, June 9) in all copies of the Fox Valley Daily Herald at no additional cost to Kane County taxpayers in order to comply with state law,” Supervisor of Assessments Mark Armstrong said in a Thursday news release.

The previous final filing deadline was set for Friday, July 8, 2016; however, by state law the final filing deadline for property in these two Townships must be extended until Monday, July 11, 2016.

Heads up if you live in Batavia Township or Burlington Township!

The 2016 assessment changes for property in Batavia and Burlington townships are being published Wednesday, June 8, in the Fox Valley edition of the Daily Herald.

And that means the final filing deadline for property in these two townships has been set for July 8, 2016. Put another way, if you want to challenge the amount of your assessed valuation, now is the time to do it.

  • After all revisions and corrections by the township assessors were applied, each non-farm property in Batavia Township was equalized with a factor of 1.0233 and each non-farm property in Burlington Township as equalized with a factor of 1.0281.   • Again, assessment complaints for property in these townships must be filed by July 8, 2016; by state law, no assessment complaints for property in these townships can be accepted after this date. Click here to learn more about assessment complaints.

Filing Deadlines for Assessment Complaints

By state law, the last day that an assessment complaint may be filed is the close of business on the 30th day after publication in a local newspaper. The only exception is if the County Assessment Office is not open on the 30th day; in that instance, the deadline is automatically extended to the close of business on the next day the office is open.

Assessment changes in Batavia and Burlington Townships are being published June 8; the final filing deadline for these townships is July 8, 2016.

Assessment changes in Hampshire Township were published on June 1; the final filing deadline for this township is July 1, 2016. If you missed the newspaper publication, click here for an online copy of the publication.

Assessment changes for Aurora, Big Rock, Blackberry, Campton, Dundee, Elgin, Geneva, Kaneville, Plato, Rutland, St. Charles, Sugar Grove, and Virgil Townships have not yet been published; as of today, no final filing deadline has been established for these townships.
