Watch the Firefly Fireworks July 5 and July 7 at Kane Forest Preserves

Ever wondered how a glow worm glows, or why a lightning bug lights, or if a firefly light is hot to the touch?

A boy is looking at a glowing bug firefly coming out of a jar with a butterfly at night for an imagination or hobby concept.

Learn the answers and more as you explore the fascinating world of brilliant bugs during the Forest Preserve District of Kane County’s “Firefly Fireworks” program. Lightning bugs and glow worms are not only beautiful when lit up, but they’re also an important part of the prairie ecosystem. The walk will start at dusk. See the nighttime magic begin as thousands of fireflies rise from the prairie.
