The Chicago Cubs were clobbered 14-3 Sunday by the accursed New York Mets, but that game brought at least a little good news for Kane County Cougars fans.

The Cubs brought up former Kane County Cougars third baseman Jeimer Candelario from Triple-A Iowa, and Candelario made his debut at third base on Sunday afternoon.

He is the fourth former Cougar to make a Major League debut with the Cubs this season.

Candelario finished the day going 1-for-4 at the plate after leading off the seventh inning with a single to right field.

Signed by the Cubs as a non-drafted free agent in September of 2010, Candelario spent the 2013 season with the Cougars as well as a portion of the 2014 season. Posting a .256 batting average with 71 RBI over 130 games during the 2013 season, he is the Cougars all-time batting leader in doubles with 54.

Listed as the No. 7 prospect on MLB.com, Candelario began the season with Double-A Tennessee before being promoted to the Iowa Cubs in June. In 25 games with Triple-A Iowa, he was batting .333 with 15 RBI. Following his debut, Candelario becomes  the 143rd player in Kane County Cougars history to make it to the Major Leagues.
