Coombs Road Bridge Repair to Begin in Mid- to Late-July

Back in April, Coombs Road Bridge over the Canadian Pacific Railroad in Elgin Township was closed for safety reasons, and traffic was detoured using Highland Avenue, Randall Road and Big Timber Road.

The Kane County Division of Transportation announced some good news today (Wednesday, July 6, 2016) — that repair work on the bridge located just north of Highland Avenue is scheduled to begin in mid- to late-July.

Detour route.

Once work starts, KDOT officials estimate it will take about about two weeks to complete the bridge repairs. Work will consist of the installation of steel members which will extend the life of the existing bridge structure.

KDOT says motorists should continue to follow the posted detour route around the bridge closure until further notice.

Transportation officials ask drivers to watch for and obey flaggers and other traffic control devices, and watch for trucks and equipment leaving and entering the construction site. Motorists should be prepared to reduce their speed, exercise caution, and be extra alert. They are also reminding drivers that it is illegal to talk on a cell phone while driving through a highway construction work zone.

Questions and concerns may be directed to Elgin Township Road District Highway Commissioner Rodney Seyller at 847-741-4637.
