County to Release ‘Reevaluation Environmental Assessment’ for Longmeadow Parkway
Kane County is about to release a document called the “Reevaluation Environmental Assessment” for the Longmeadow Parkway project.
The Kane County Division of Transportation said Monday (July 25, 2016) that KDOT, with the assistance of the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration, has completed a Reevaluation Environmental Assessment for the 5.6-mile roadway and bridge project in northern Kane County and will post that document on the Longmeadow Parkway page of the KDOT website as soon as possible, most likely later this week.
Once posted on the KDOT webpage, the EA will undergo a public review and comment period, and a public hearing for the EA will be held in late August or early September, KDOT said. The public hearing date, time and location will be publicly advertised.
KDOT says the EA verifies information and data gathered and used in the original Environmental Impact Statement and Record of Decision, which approved the project.
“Years of environmental/engineering studies, updates and approvals by local, state and federal environmental protection agencies have determined the Longmeadow Parkway Bridge Corridor alternative to have the least impact when considering homes, air, noise, water, wetlands and wildlife, even compared to a no-build scenario,” KDOT said. “The Longmeadow Parkway alignment is the only acceptable new bridge crossing in the Fox River Bridges Corridor Study Final Environmental Impact Statement for northern Kane County.”
The Longmeadow Parkway Fox River Bridge Corridor is a planned, tree-lined parkway and Fox River bridge crossing with a landscaped median, approximately 5.6 miles in length, running from Huntley Road to IL Route 62. The proposed road passes through portions of the villages of Algonquin, Carpentersville and Barrington Hills, as well as unincorporated areas of Kane County.
The Longmeadow Parkway Bridge Corridor project has for many years received support from surrounding communities, through board resolutions, inclusion in comprehensive plans and municipal construction of parts of the corridor. KDOT officials say the parkway “will provide a valuable benefit to the public by relieving congestion, encouraging economic development, improving travel options and connecting towns and neighborhoods.”
