Kane County Animal Control Administrator Brett Youngsteadt isn’t saying how much money was recently donated by the Jane M. Peterson Trust to help Kane County animals in need, but he does want to publicly thank the Peterson family.

“It’s an amazing gift,” Youngsteadt  said. “We certainly hope to honor the memory and generosity of Ms. Peterson and her family by ensuring we maximize the number of animal lives this donation can reach.”

Youngsteadt said all donations KCAC receives, no matter the size, amount or quantity, positively impact every four-legged animal that finds itself at the shelter.

Kane County Animal Control receives no taxpayer dollars from Kane County residents, but operates solely on the fees collected from rabies registration tags, as well as adoptions and other services provided to county citizens.

Youngsteadt said the donation to KCAC not only shows that Ms. Peterson had a soft spot in her heart for animals in need, but also understood the hard work and dedication the staff at KCAC has to the animals.

“Losing a loved one is difficult in any circumstance, but perhaps her family can find solace in the incredible legacy Ms. Peterson leaves behind,
he said. “Through her generous gift she must surely be smiling at the number of lives she will have changed for the better.”

How to Adopt

All Kane County Animal Control adoptable cats and dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all vaccines including rabies. They are tested for feline leukemia/FIV and heartworm. The adoption fee for dogs is $200 and $100 for cats.

About Kane County Animal Control

It is the duty of the Animal Control Department to:

• Ensure that all domesticated dogs and cats over 4 months of age are vaccinated against Rabies and have a Kane County Rabies Tag.
• Ensure that all reported animal bites are given precautionary attention in relation to the possibility rabies infection.
• Ensure that pet owners are instructed on proper procedures pertaining to animal bites and enforce adherence to these procedures.
• Contain loose\stray dogs in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
• Investigate nuisance dog complaints in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
• Investigate complaints of neglected and\or abused dogs.
