Heads Up, Burlington! Railroad Work Will Close Plank Road July 21-22
It wasn’t all that long ago that officials in Burlington celebrated the opening of a realigned Plank Road. Now comes news that the road will be closed for the better part of two days later this week so that Canadian National Railroad can do some improvements of its own.
The Kane County Division of Transportation announced today (Monday, July 18, 2016) that CNRR will be closing Plank Road (County Highway No. 38) at the railroad crossing about one mile west of Burlington Road in the village of Burlington. The road closure will allow for the railway crossing to be reconstructed, improving the riding surface for Plank Road motorists.
The road is scheduled to be closed at 7 a.m. Thursday, July 21, 2016, and expected to reopen by 5 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2016. The posted detour route will use Burlington Road, Walker Road, IL Route 72, and IL Route 23 to divert traffic around the construction area. Motorists should be prepared to reduce their speed, exercise caution, and to obey all traffic control devices.
This is the second road closure by Canadian National Railroad in recent weeks. The CNRR closed Randall Road on June 20 to make emergency repairs at the crossing about 1/3 mile south of Hopps Road in South Elgin. It closed the road again on June 23 for additional work to smooth out the road grade.
KDOT officials remind drivers that it is illegal to talk on a cell phone or text while driving through a highway construction work zone.
