First a hot-dog recall, now an ice cream recall — what the heck is going on with our favorite summer foods?

Screen Shot 2016-07-21 at 9.21.58 AMNo illnesses have been reported to date, but the product was distributed across the United States. Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

The recall is the result of a routine sampling by the state of Washington which revealed that the finished products contained the bacteria. The company has ceased the production and distribution of the product as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the company continues their investigation as to what caused the problem.

Consumers who have purchased Agave Dream Cappuccino ice cream with “Best By” date 07/04/17 are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 866-993-4438 or agavedream@sbcglobal.net<mailto:agavedream@sbcglobal.net from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. PST Monday through Saturday.
