Iconic Superfortress ‘Fifi’ Airplane Lands in Aurora This Weekend

The Aurora Municipal Airport is hosting the popular Commemorative Air Force AirPower History tour this weekend.

From Thursday, July 14, through Sunday, July 17, the tour will feature the iconic Boeing B-29 Superfortress, FIFI, which will be accompanied by several World War II aircraft including a P-51 Mustang, C-45 Expeditor, T-6 Texan and PT-13 Stearman.

The event is open to the public from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, July 14, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday, July 15-17.

Admission to the ramp is $10 for adults and $5 for children age 11-17. There is no charge for children age 10 and under.

The CAF AirPower History Tour provides powerful history lessons to audiences across the United States. The collection of flying military aircraft brings the sights, sounds and stories of World War II aviation to the public at large. Visitors can view the aircraft up close, watch them fly, and also purchase rides in them. Admission price does not cover rides.

About the CAF AirPower History Tour

airplanes fifi and diamondThe B-29/B-24 Squadron of the Commemorative Air Force brings together the aircraft, pilots and crews from over 70 CAF units across the country to create the AirPower Squadron – an ever changing assortment of military aircraft touring together to bring the sights, sounds and smells of World War II aviation history to audiences across the United States.

The AirPower Squadron always includes at least one of the two rarest World War II bombers in the world – FIFI, the only flying BoeingB-29 Superfortress and Diamond Lil, an equally rare B-24 Liberator. Aircraft accompanying the B-29 or B-24 will include other World War II aircraft such as the P-51 Mustang, the B-17 Flying Fortress and the B-25 Mitchell, along with an assortment of fighters, trainers and liaison aircraft.
