July 18 Date Set For Coombs Bridge Closure in Elgin Township
Work is scheduled to begin the week of July 18, 2016, on the Coombs Road Bridge over the Canadian Pacific Railroad, located just north of Highland Avenue in Elgin Township.
Once work starts, the anticipated duration for the bridge repair project is about two weeks, weather permitting. Work will consist of the installation of steel members which will extend the life of the existing bridge structure.
All bicyclists and foot traffic should remain clear of the area during construction for the safety of both the workers and the residents.
Motorists should continue to follow the posted detour route around the bridge closure until further notice. KDOT officials ask drivers to obey traffic control devices and watch for trucks and equipment leaving and entering the construction site. Motorists should be prepared to reduce their speed, exercise caution, and be extra alert.
Kane County Division of Transportation officials remind drivers that it is illegal to talk on a cell phone or text while driving through a highway construction work zone.
Questions and concerns may be directed to Rodney Seyller, Elgin Township Road District highway commissioner, at (847) 741-4637.
