• KCAC’s Adorable, Adoptable Pet of the Week is written by Tecla Metzel of Kane County Animal Control.

My name is Rain and I came to KCAC as a stray with my mom and two sisters, River and Storm. We were only 3 weeks old when we were brought in with our mom. I was really scared at first and didn’t want to leave my mother, but then she got adopted. So did my sisters, so I’m the last of my family to go out on my own.

I admit I was kind of a mama’s boy. Venturing out was a bit scary for me, but all of the people at the shelter have worked with me to get me to not be so scared.

I must be catching on because now I can run down the hallway faster than anyone and then jump up on the nearest desk all in one fell swoop. I like to watch all the papers and pens go flying so I can chase them before I run and slide under the printer cabinet!

I don’t mind getting picked up and cuddled, but since I’m a male kitten with a lot of energy, I don’t want to waste a lot of time snuggling unless I’m very tired.

I do have a talking heart, which the staff calls a heart murmur. It hasn’t slowed me down and I may grow out of it, but only time will tell. My favorite type of home would be with people who will be patient with me, let me find my own space and play with me a lot.

  Lovely Juliet, the shy little Chihuahua with the tall ears, found her forever home last week after waiting patiently for a month. Congratulations, Juliet. Enjoy your new empire!

• Lucas, the happy go-lucky puppy pit bull, also found his forever family. (Yay!) He’s probably lounging on his favorite couch watching videos at this very moment.
• Long tall Sally, the brindle pit bull with a goofy grin, is still waiting for her Mustang family to adopt her.
• Renny, a 1-year old lab/pit bull mix is still awaiting his forever family to adopt him so he can have some fun!
• Doris, the 3-year old brown and white pit bull with the “que sera, sera” attitude is waiting for her forever family.

How to Adopt

All Kane County Animal Control adoptable cats and dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all vaccines including rabies. They are tested for feline leukemia/FIV and heartworm. The adoption fee for dogs is $200 and $100 for cats.

About Kane County Animal Control

It is the duty of the Animal Control Department to:

• Ensure that all domesticated dogs and cats over 4 months of age are vaccinated against Rabies and have a Kane County Rabies Tag.
• Ensure that all reported animal bites are given precautionary attention in relation to the possibility rabies infection.
• Ensure that pet owners are instructed on proper procedures pertaining to animal bites and enforce adherence to these procedures.
• Contain loose\stray dogs in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
• Investigate nuisance dog complaints in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
• Investigate complaints of neglected and\or abused dogs.
