POW: Pick One of The Fab Four Guinea Pigs! (Except Paul, He’s Taken)
- KCAC’s Adorable, Adoptable Pet of the Week is written by Tecla Metzel of Kane County Animal Control.
What animal is known as a Cavia porcellus, originated in South America, has a short stubby body and large head, and was considered exotic enough at one time for Queen Elizabeth to own one?
If you answered “guinea pig” to all of the above, then you might be a guinea pig aficionado! And if you’re looking to adopt one or more of these amazing creatures, then look no further than Kane County Animal Control!
Originally found in a box in the pouring rain in downtown Batavia, KCAC initially took in four guinea pigs. Each one was named after a member of the Fab Four — Paul, George, John and Ringo.
Fortunately, Paul has been adopted, which leaves Ringo, George and John, each one as sweet as the next. Ringo is the most social of the males and enjoys talking throughout the day.
George and John are still a bit shy and will need regular handling to help them work on their socialization skills, which shouldn’t take any time at all since guinea pigs are extremely sociable animals that enjoy living in small herds.
Although cavies have poor eyesight, their sense of smell and hearing are extremely acute. They also communicate with each other by making a variety of noises and sounds.
Come in to Kane County Animal Control and join the cavi conversation!
