Tollway Will Close Lanes on Randall Road and I-90 Intersection For 2 Weekends, Beginning July 29
- Editor’s Note: The headline of an earlier version of this article incorrectly identified IDOT (Illinois Department of Transportation) as the government agency that is closing lanes on Randall Road and I-90. As the article indicates, the work is being done by the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority.
The Illinois State Toll Highway Authority will conduct repairs on the Interstate 90 eastbound and westbound ramp intersections at Randall Road in the city of Elgin that will require Randall Road lane closures on two consecutive weekends, starting Friday, July 29, 2016.
Randall Road traffic will be reduced to a single travel lane for northbound travel and a single lane for southbound travel starting at 10 p.m. Friday, July 29, and is expected to reopen at 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 1, 2016, weather permitting.
A second Randall Road lane closure is scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, and expected to reopen to traffic at 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 8, 2016, weather permitting.
Once repair work begins on Friday, July 29, the traffic signal detection will be impacted, causing longer green lights for both traffic signals controlling the Interstate 90 exit ramp movements. Full traffic signal detection functionality is expected to be restored by Aug. 22, 2016.
The Kane County Division of Transportation and IDOT ask drivers to reduce their speed, exercise caution, be extra alert and anticipate increased travel times. Motorist must watch for and obey flaggers and other traffic control devices within the work zone. Your cooperation and patience is greatly appreciated.
The scheduled repairs involve removal and replacement of roadway shoulder pavement along the ramps with some minor pavement patch repairs on the driving pavement on the ramps immediately adjacent to Randall Road.
As a reminder, it is illegal for drivers to talk or text on a cell phone while driving through a highway construction work zone.
