ALERT! Kirk Road in Batavia Will Close For 3 Days, Starting Monday, Aug. 1
Driver alert!
The Burlington Northern Sante Fe Railroad will close Kirk Road (County Highway No. 77) at the railroad crossing between Hubbard Avenue and Wilson Street in the city of Batavia for three days, starting Monday, Aug. 1.
Kirk Road is scheduled to be closed starting at 7 a.m. Monday, Aug. 1, 2016, and is expected to reopen by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2016, weather permitting.
A long detour will be necessary. The posted detour route will use Butterfield Road (IL Route 56), IL Route 59, and Roosevelt Road (IL Route 38) to divert traffic around the construction area. (See map below.) Motorists should be prepared to reduce their speed, exercise caution, and to obey all traffic control devices.
The motoring public should expect significant traffic delays on all segments of the posted detour route and surrounding roadways. All motorists who are able to reroute around the regional area entirely are encouraged to do so. Motorists who cannot avoid this area should reduce their speed, exercise caution, obey all traffic control devices and add considerable time to their expected travel times.
The closure will allow for the railway crossing to be reconstructed, improving the riding surface for Kirk Road motorists, according to a Kane County Division of Transportion news release posted Tuesday afternoon.
As always, KDOT reminds drivers that it is illegal to talk on a cell phone or text while driving through a highway construction work zone.
Any questions or concerns may be directed to the Kurt Nika, KDOT chief of traffic operations & permitting, at (630) 584-1171.
