American red and white wines will be offered under blue skies when The Depot in East Dundee hosts Wine Down from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2016.

The showcase of American wines will feature three white and three red wines provided by the Anvil Club in East Dundee.  Featured California whites include Bodkin’s Sauvignon Blan, with its notes of grapefruit, lemon-lime and nectarine and Bishop’s Peak Chardonn, which has aromas of white flower, roasted nuts and fresh pear. Washington state’s Barnard-Griffin’s Riesling, that has a light sweetness with flavors of apple and pear will also be offered.

Visitors will also be tasting California reds including Heron’s Pinot Noir, a medium body smooth textured wine with notes of red and black cherry; Andrew Murray’s Syrah, which is a step between Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon; and Foxglove’s Cabernet Sauvignon, a medium full-bodied wine, pleasantly dry but fully-fruited suggestive of blackberry, black currant and plum.

Sponsored by Artisticology and Payroll Vault, Wine Down Wednesdays offers a chance for visitors to sample wines; shop the wares created by local artisans; listen to live music provided by GYPSY;  try their hand at a create-it-in-one-night  art class and visit with their friends and neighbors.

Admission is free but visitors must be 21 yrs. old to participate in the tastings and purchase a $1.00 wristband from the Dundee Foundation. Prices are $6.00 for three 1.5oz. tastings; $6.00 per 5 oz. glass of wine or varying prices for bottles. Cases of wine can be purchased for later delivery. Souvenir; hand-painted wine glasses will be sold onsite for $5.00 by Artisticology.

More than a dozen artisans will be on hand selling their hand-crafted works of art. Budding artists will be able to create their own oil on canvas in one sitting at classes being offered onsite by Artisticology from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.. Reservations are encouraged and a fee applies. “Wine Down Wednesdays are one of our most popular events,” said Village President Lael Miller. “Visitors come to taste the wines but once they’re here in our downtown business district, they’re amazed at how much East Dundee has changed. Even long-time residents are surprised by the number of new businesses that have opened and all the renovations and construction we’ve done.”
