Batavia Residents Celebrate Rededication of Engstrom Park

Engstrom Park is one of the most popular parks in Batavia, and at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, the Batavia Park District will showcase three years’ worth of renovations at a re-dedication celebration.

The park features a baseball diamond, basketball court, and soccer fields in addition to a pavilion and playground. The park was built in 1984 and came due for an upgrade several years ago. In 2014, parking lots were rebuilt, the nearly one-mile walking train was replaced, new rain gardens were added to help aide in storm water runoff, and the shelter was renovated.

Engstrom shelterIn 2015, the focus was on the ball field. New fencing was added, a new back stop was installed, and the spectator and player areas were redone. The infield was also regraded and enlarged. The last piece of the renovation was completed in May 2016 when the entire playground was replaced and a safety surface was added.

Families have come out in mass this summer to experience the new playground, which features a 50-foot zip line. And before the kids go back to school, the Batavia Park District is inviting the community to celebrate the park’s re-dedication.

The event will kick off at 10 a.m. with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Free refreshments will be provided. After the ribbon cutting, families are invited to show off their competitive side by participating in three Family Challenge games to earn some serious bragging rights as well as some fun prizes! Families can enter for no charge and participate in a total of three games. Teams will earn points for each game, and the top three teams will receive prize packages courtesy of the Batavia Park District. Games will begin at approximately 10:30 a.m.
