County Crack Sealing to Begin Aug. 8 on Kirk, Orchard and Stearns
Starting the week of Aug. 8, 2016, crack sealing will begin on portions of Kirk Road (from Bank Lane to IL Route 64), Orchard Road (from Base Line Road to Jericho Road), and Stearns Road (from Randall Road to IL Route 25). Construction work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day for about the next four weeks.
The crack sealing program is part of the county’s comprehensive road maintenance program to increase the longevity of the roads by sealing road cracks preventing water from penetrating the road base and reducing the life of the pavement.
Kirk, Orchard and Stearns roads will remain open during treatment but will be reduced to one lane of travel using temporary daily lane closures. Motorist should be prepared to reduce their speed, exercise caution, and watch for and obey flaggers and other traffic control devices within the work zone.
Motorists are advised to expect delays while traveling through the work areas, and may want to consider the use of alternate routes while this work is being completed.
KDOT reminds drivers that it is illegal to talk on a cell phone while driving through a highway construction work zone.
