Downtown Elgin Detour: Metra Closes Part of Highland Avenue Bridge
Metra will close a portion of the Highland Avenue bridge in downtown Elgin to repair its railroad tracks, the city of Elgin reports.
From Aug. 10 through Aug. 19, 2016, traffic will not be able to cross the Highland Avenue bridge and alternate routes are required. Heavy traffic on other bridges is expected during this closure, so the city says drivers should plan for delays.
The following are some of the other road projects going on in Elgin during the week beginning Monday, Aug. 10:
Work on Route 25 Exit Ramp
Work at the intersection of Bluff City Boulevard and IL Route 20 (IL Route 25 exit ramp) requires the exit ramp to be reduced to one lane throughout the week. Drivers should plan for delays for this work, as well as the traffic pattern in place on Bluff City Bouleverad at the intersections of St. Charles Street and and Route 25.
Bluff City Combined Sewer Separation
Last week, crews completed storm sewer improvements along Raymond Street, and traffic control will still be in place throughout this week as patches cure. This week, crews will work on sanitary sewer installation along Bluff City Boulevard between Grace Street and Elizabeth Street.
This will cause significant traffic delays at the IL Route 25 exit on U.S. Route 20. The exit ramp will remain open but will be reduced to one lane throughout most of next week.
