Eight Weeks of Culvert Repairs on Randall Road in Elgin, Starting Aug. 22

Culvert repair work is scheduled to begin the week of Aug. 22, 2016, on the Randall Road over Sandy Creek culvert located about a half mile north of U.S. Route 20.

The anticipated duration for the culvert repair project is eight weeks, weather permitting. Work will consist of removal of the existing metal flared end sections, lining of the existing 72-inch culvert, and construction of new concrete head walls. Additional work will include removal and replacement of guard rails, minor embankment grading and site restoration.

Randall Road will maintain all four existing lanes, but each lane will be reduced to 11 feet using traffic barriers for the duration of the project in order to aid in contractor access and to increase motorist safety.

The rehabilitation is part of the countywide culvert improvement project meant to repair culverts in order to maintain the proper flow of waterways in Kane County.

All bicyclists and pedestrians are advised to avoid using the area during construction for the safety of both the workers and the residents, and Kane County’s Division of Transportation reminds drivers that it is illegal to talk on a cell phone or text while driving through a highway construction work zone. Drivers are asked to obey traffic control devices, and watch for trucks and equipment accessing the construction site.
