Kane County Alerts Vendors to Scam Involving Fake Purchasing Orders
Kane County’s Purchasing Department is warning vendors of fraudulent purchase orders that have been issued in the name of Kane County with deliveries to warehouse facilities in Elgin and Bolingbrook.
The fraudulent purchase orders were issued in the name of the former Purchasing Director Christopher Rossman, with forwarded phone numbers and the email address purchasing@kanecountyboard.org. The third-party shipping addresses in Elgin and Bolingbrook are not Kane County buildings.
Officials say the intent of the scam is to bill Kane County for stolen computer shipments scheduled to be sent to the United Kingdom.
The matter has been turned over to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office.
The Purchasing Department is reminding vendors that there are only two authorized shipping addresses for Kane County computer supplies and equipment purchases:
- The Kane County Government Center, 719 S. Batavia Ave., Geneva, IL
- The Kane County Sheriff’s Office at 37W755 IL Route 38 in St. Charles, IL.
Kane County Director of Purchasing Theresa Dobersztyn asks vendors to notify Kane County purchasing staff at purchasing@co.kane.il.us or contact her directly at 630-444-1071 if you receive suspicious request for quotes for large computer purchases.
Visit the Purchasing Department homepage of the Kane County website to view purchase requests and verify the identities of Kane County staff members.
