Kaneland Cross Country Team’s 50th Anniversary T-Shirt Honors Steve Chidester
The 50th season of Kaneland High School’s cross-country team will be recognized with a very special T-shirt that also honors the memory of Steve Chidester, a standout cross-country runner and Kane County Division of Transportation employee.
Chidester died May 19 after being struck by a Ford F250 pickup on Harter Road in Blackberry Township. He has been remembered as part of the Kane County Adopt-A-Highway Program and now will be honored by his high school alma mater with a T-shirt that reads, “Kaneland Boys Cross Country: Going the Extra Mile for 50 Seasons.”
The back of the T-shirt will say “#MOVEOVER” — a hashtag reminder for drivers to slow down and be aware of workers on local and state roadways.
Before accepting his diploma at Kaneland, Chidester was a three-sport athlete who went to state on the cross country team, excelled in track where he specialized in the pole vault, and made a name for himself on the wrestling team.
Shirts may be purchased on the Kaneland Cross Country Team page of the BSN Team Sports website. The event code is knight2G4V.
All orders must be submitted online by Aug. 10.
“Special thanks to Lorraine F.M. Chidester for assisting in this project,” the Kaneland cross country team news release says. “Her courage and commitment to keeping Steve’s memory alive will endure.”
