Lane Closures Set for Randall Road and Interstate 90 Beginning Aug. 12
If you travel on Randall Road or Interstate 90, you’ll want to take notice of the latest Illinois State Toll Highway Authority action.
A Kane County Division of Transportation traffic alert says ISTHA began conducting repairs on the Interstate 90 eastbound and westbound ramp intersections at Randall Road in the city of Elgin starting July 29. The work continues, and will require lane closures along Randall Road reducing traffic to a single travel lane for northbound travel and a single lane for southbound travel.
The northbound and southbound Randall Road lane closures are scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, 2016, and are expected to reopen to traffic at 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 15, 2016, weather permitting.
Once repair work begins, the traffic signal detection will be impacted — causing longer green lights for both traffic signals controlling the Interstate 90 exit ramp movements. Full traffic signal detection functionality is expected to be restored by Sept. 2, 2016.
Motorist need to reduce their speed, exercise caution, be extra alert and anticipate increased travel times. Motorist must watch for and obey flaggers and other traffic control devices within the work zone.
The scheduled repairs involve removal and replacement of roadway shoulder pavement along the ramps with some minor pavement patch repairs on the driving pavement on the ramps immediately adjacent to Randall Road.
As always, KDOT reminds drivers that it is illegal o talk or text on a cell phone while driving through a highway construction work zone.

About the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway Project
In 2016, the Illinois Tollway is scheduled to complete roadway work between the Elgin Toll Plaza and the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) delivering 62 miles of newly rebuilt and widened lanes as part of the $2.5 billion Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) Rebuilding and Widening Project. Construction also includes continued work to expand and improve interchanges, to reconstruct the Fox River Bridge and replace local crossroad bridges on the I-90 corridor.
The Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) Rebuilding and Widening Project is expected to save drivers up to 27 minutes on the average trip from Elgin to the Kennedy Expressway. In addition, the improved roadway will accommodate as many as 83,000 more vehicles per day and will save drivers $440 million annually due to reduced congestion and delays.
Further, the project is expected to create or sustain as many as 11,500 additional permanent jobs in the Chicago region. When complete, the corridor will accommodate long-term growth in truck traffic projected to increase by 15,000 trucks carrying 375,000 tons of freight per day by 2040.
