A 35-year-old St. Charles man was killed, his sister and brother-in-law injured in a Saturday-morning crash on IL Route 64 near Fabris Road in unincorporated Virgil Township.
According to a Kane County Sheriff’s Office news release, deputies responded to the report of a traffic crash with injuries at around 2:10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016.
The initial investigation indicates a 2015 Volkswagen Tiguan SUV driven by Sean Tardy, 39, of Maple Park was traveling east on Route 64 when it failed to navigate a curve on Route 64, left the road and rolled over. The Sheriff’s Office said Tardy and the front-seat passenger, 35-year-old David Drewes of St. Charles, were not wearing seat belts and were ejected from the vehicle.
Drewes was pronounced deceased at the scene, and Tardy was taken to Kishwaukee Hospital via Maple Park EMS, then flown to Rockford Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.
Kristie Drewes, 36, of Maple Park was seated in the back seat, was wearing a seat belt and was not ejected from the vehicle. She taken to Kishwaukee Hospital with minor injuries.
The news release said Tardy and Kristie Drewes are recently married. Kristie Drewes is David Drewes’ sister.
The crash remains under investigation by Kane County sheriff’s deputies and members of the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team. No citations have been issued, and deputies have not ruled out that alcohol played a role in this crash.
Route 64 was closed between Peplow Road and Fabris Road for about three hours while the crash was investigated.
