Aurora Man Dies After Weekend Shooting Near A Child’s Party
Chicago wasn’t the only city to see tragic shooting deaths over the Labor Day weekend.
A 31-year-old Aurora man died Sunday following a Labor Day weekend shooting as he was leaving a child’s birthday party.
According to an Aurora Police Department news release, officers responded at around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4, to a reported shooting in the 600 block of High Street, where they found Andres Ochoa, 31, unconscious and unresponsive, having apparently been struck by gunfire.
Paramedics brought Ochoa to Provena-Mercy Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Police said Ochoa had been attending a child’s birthday party moments before the shooting. Witnesses told police there was a disturbance in the area of the party and prior to the shooting, and officers located two other subjects who were found to be in need of medical attention for non-lethal, non-shooting related injuries.
The subjects were provided medical treatment but “were less than fully cooperative with investigating officers,” the news release said.
The investigation is ongoing as officers continue to search for witnesses and evidence.
“While the case is still in its preliminary stages, the shooting does not appear to be random in nature,” the news release said.
