CASA Kane County Announces New Advocates
CASA Kane County has announced its newest class of 14 CASA/GAL advocates, sworn in by Judge William J. Parkhurst, on Sept. 6, 2016.
After going through the application process that includes interviews, background checks and a 40-hour comprehensive training class, the volunteers take an oath with the Judge to serve in the best interests of abused and neglected children.
The new volunteers were sworn in at the Historic Courthouse in Geneva that was followed by a celebration with their friends and family, court personnel, the CASA staff, their new mentors, and the abuse/neglect judge who all gathered together to honor their accomplishment. It is much like a graduation reception.
At the ceremony, the judge has them repeat their oath with their right hands raised, and he then speaks to the CASA’s about the importance of their new role, the immeasurable value it has to him and the court system, and most importantly—in the lives and futures of our children. He then declares them officers of the court, and they must keep everything they learn through their casework completely confidential .
CASA Kane County offers support and supervision to all of its volunteers including case management, resources, agency collaborations, and continuing education programs. Last year, CASA Kane County had 281 active CASA/GAL volunteers who served 610 children.
