Check Out Local Events Celebrating National Drive Electric Week
- Editor’s Note: This is the second of two articles celebrating National Drive Electric Week (Sept. 10-18, 2016) in Kane County. Yesterday’s article examined the history and progress of Kane County’s growing “Green Fleet.”
Drive Electric Week is a nationwide celebration to heighten awareness of the benefits of electric vehicles and today’s widespread availability of all-electric and plug-in hybrid-electric cars, trucks, motorcycles, and more. Started in 2011 as National Plug In Day, the celebration has grown each year and now features an entire week of events — including two in the Chicago suburbs coming up this weekend.
The Fox Valley Electric Auto Association is hosting two local events during this year’s National Drive Electric Week in Lake Barrington and Naperville.
Lake Barrington Event: Saturday, Sept. 17
Spend the afternoon exploring custom-built conversions, factory-built electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids. Enjoy rides in EVs. Ask questions of the experts and owners. If you have an EV, bring it before 1 p.m. and participate!

Naperville Event: Sunday, Sept. 18
Come out to the Electric Vehicle Ride-and-Drive and Parade sponsored by the Fox Valley Electric Auto Association, a not-for-profit organization of volunteers dedicated to educating the public and promoting electric vehicles. Festivities and a parade begin Sunday at 1 p.m.
Talk to owners of various electric vehicles of all types and models, including cars, hot rods, and trucks converted to electric by members of the FVEAA, along with EVs brought by owners, and EVs from various manufacturers.
If you already own an EV, bring it before 1 p.m.to participate. Or come and take a ride in an EV around the test track. Ask questions of the experts and owners. “See and drive what EVeryone is talking about,” event promoters say. “The Electric Vehicle revolution is here!”
