Heritage Fest 2016 Features Cars, Wine, Fireworks Sept. 16-18 in Dundee
Two of East Dundee’s popular weekly summer events — Motor Mondays and Wine Down Wednesdays — will make an encore during this year’s Heritage Fest, set to take place Friday, Sept. 16, through Sunday, Sept. 18, in East Dundee and West Dundee.
From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, River Street in East Dundee will be lined with vehicles from various decades that are sure to bring back all types of memories. Attendees are invited to spend the rest of their evening enjoying the fireworks on the Fox River, starting at 8 p.m., and at East Dundee’s always-popular carnival and the Big Top Tent that will be rocking until 11 p.m. with some over the area’s top, high energy bands.
Food and drink will be available for purchase on Friday and throughout the festival; but in order to be served alcohol, fest goers will have to purchase a $1 wristband that will be sold and honored in both East Dundee and West Dundee during Heritage Fest.
Wine enthusiasts eager to sample German and Austrian wines, can make their way to The Anvil Club on Meier Street from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17. Held on the club’s veranda, the event will be featuring three white wines and three reds. The whites include Hopler’s Gruner Veltliner; Burgenland, Austria; Wirsching’s Scheurebe; Pflaz, Germany, and Balthasar Ress’s Reisling; Rheingau,Germany. The reds include Pannonica’s Red Blend; Austria; Friedrich Becker’s Pinot Noir; Pflaz, Germany and Sattler’s Zweigelt; Burgenland, Austria.
Wristbands are required to sample, and prices are $6 for three 1.5-ounce samples or $6 for one 5-ounce glass of wine. Wines also are available by the bottle, and prices vary.
Hand-painted souvenir wine glasses created by Artisticology will be available for $6. More than a dozen artisans will also be on hand selling their handcrafted artworks during this event.
Both events are taking place during Heritage Fest, the annual community event being held in East Dundee and West Dundee, Sept. 16-18. Traditionally held in West Dundee, Heritage Fest has expanded into East Dundee, and takes place in the downtown Dundee location along Route 72. Through a partnership between the villages, visitors will enjoy fireworks, great music, carnival rides, great food, craft and antique fairs, car shows, Kids Korner, magic shows, business expos, weekend markets and more.
And to make it an easy trek for visitors to travel from West into East Dundee, the Dundee Township Park District will be providing free East Dundee “Hay Shuttles” from the footbridge near Bartels Park on Water Street and Barrington Avenue to downtown East Dundee from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
