‘Insect Wonderland’ And More — Forest Preserve Fall Programs Help Preschoolers Explore

From an insect wonderland to nature’s harvests, there are a lot of fun fall activities for preschoolers coming up at Creek Bend Nature Center at LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve.

Nature Tykes

Nature Programs, Kane County Forest Preserve District

Fish, insects, nature’s harvest and turkeys, will be the themes for this fall’s nature programs for preschoolers, from the Forest Preserve District of Kane County.

In “Nature Tykes,” 3-year olds explore the natural world through a variety of activities with their parent or caregiver. Sessions include a combination of stories, nature hikes, songs, games and crafts.

  • On Thursday, Sept. 22, insect wonderland will be the theme.
  • On Thursday, Oct. 27, nature’s harvest will be the theme.
  • And on Thursday, Nov. 17, turkey trot will be the theme.

“Nature Tykes” programs run from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at Creek Bend Nature Center. Registration is $5 per child, per session.

Little Naturalists

“Little Naturalists” is the Forest Preserve District’s hour-long program for 4- and 5-year-olds. Children will discover the wonders of nature through a variety of activities including songs, hikes, stories, games and crafts.

This program is for the young participants, so parents, caregivers and siblings may enjoy the trails of LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve, or wait inside the nature center, during the program.
