Tower Building Construction Requires Tuesday Street Closing in Downtown Elgin

Construction work at the Tower Building in downtown Elgin will require the one-day closure of a street.

Elgin’s Tower Building

The city of Elgin’s key alerts this week include the news that North Grove Avenue will be closed Tuesday, Sept. 13, from Chicago Street to just before the Chase driveway. The sidewalk on the west side of the street (by Chase) will still be open.

Once this work is complete, the full closure will be removed and southbound traffic will be able to travel on Grove Avenue. Northbound traffic on Grove Avenue will need to use the detour to access businesses on that street.

Other traffic alerts this week (Sept. 12 to Sept. 18, 2016) include the following.

Bluff City Basin Work Continues

The project area of Bluff City Boulevard will be reduced to one lane of traffic at times as pipes are extended across the roadway. Flaggers will be used to control traffic, and delays are expected. The city advises drivers take alternate routes.

Eagle Heights Rehab

Traffic delays on Royal Boulevard from Tyler Creek to McLean Boulevard this week. Alternate routes are advised.

Other Expected Delays

In addition to the streets mentioned above, please note the following streets with expected delays this week:
  • Nesler Road from South Street to Bode Road
  • Weld Road from Randall Road to approximately 1,000 feet north of Randall Road (near Hobby Lobby)

More Elgin Road Updates

  • elgin-trees-south-streetApproximately 120 trees have been installed along South St., which is half of the trees that will be installed by the end of the project. Irrigation is nearly complete, and light poles and associated electric continue to be installed. This week, crews are expected to complete additional concrete work (curb, gutter, drive approaches), as well as lay pavement binder.
  • Crews are expected to complete pouring sidewalks on the north side of Highland this week. Once clean up is complete in that area, traffic on Highland Ave. bridge will be shifted to the south side of the bridge. Work will also continue on the southeast quadrant of Chicago and State St., with sidewalk replacement following the completion of underground work.
